Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
